Speaker denounces stadium security guard’s violent actions during pitch invasion

Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan has denounced a security guard’s violent actions against a pitch invader at the Armenian Cup FC Noah vs. FC Ararat Armenia final. 

Footage posted online showed a security guard using physical force and hitting a boy who invaded the pitch after the match which ended 3:1 in favor of Noah. The Football Federation of Armenia has condemned the security handling as “unacceptable.” 

Speaker Simonyan commented on the matter on social media on Friday.

“I strongly believe that the person who used force against the young man who invaded the pitch during the football match can no longer have any place in ensuring security during any match regardless of what the reason was,” Simonyan said on Telegram. “A person dealing with public security has a duty to do so; they must either match their professional obligations or bear responsibility, and I repeat, I strongly believe that this specific case must have concrete consequences,” the Speaker said.
