9 arrested amid investigation into violent 2020 riots

9 persons suspected of breaching into the government headquarters and parliament building during the 2020 November 10 riots have been identified and arrested, authorities announced Thursday.

The suspects breached the police barricade and unlawfully entered the buildings. Once inside, the rioters caused major property damage, authorities said.

They are facing charges of rioting.

Prosecutors have requested a court to remand the suspects into pre-trial detention, the prosecution said in a statement.

Prosecutors said the investigation into the violent mass disturbances continues.

Last week, a court sentenced a man to three and a half years imprisonment after finding him guilty of assaulting then-Speaker of Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan during the 2020 riots which were sparked by the announcement of the Russia-mediated Nagorno-Karabakh armistice on November 9.
