YEREVAN, JANUARY 18, ARMENPRESS. Two persons have been remanded into pre-trial detention as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into the 10 November 2020 riots in Yerevan, when a crowd of demonstrators attacked then-Speaker of Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan and breached into Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s official residence.

The National Security Service said that its investigation revealed that one of the arrested suspects had joined the riots and assaulted Speaker Mirzoyan, who was already unconscious after being attacked outside parliament by a crowd. Mirzoyan was hospitalized with multiple bodily injuries.

Another arrested individual is suspected of stealing jewelry, a gold watch and other personal belongings worth 3,9 million drams of PM Pashinyan’s spouse Anna Hakobyan from their official residence during the riots. Next morning, the suspect, together with an accomplice, pawned the stolen jewelry items at pawnshops in Yerevan.

A court approved a 2-month pre-trial detention against the suspects.
