PM Pashinyan meets with civil society representatives

YEREVAN, SEPREMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with the representatives of civil society, representing some dozens of NGOs. The meeting was held in the sidelines of the program ''Fostering and protecting human rights''.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Offic eof the Prime Minister of Armenia, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp and Gonzalo Serrano, Head of Cooperation Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia also participated in the meeting.

Greeting the present, PM Pashinyan highlighted such meetings.

''Sometimes we can note that democracy also has the uniqueness when people who before establishment of democracy used to silence others, now again they have many opportunities to silence others.

This is perhaps the most important dilemma that exists in democracies, or, at least in democracies like Armenia, which still need to clarify the main understandings. Particularly, not always but in some cases it can turn out that there is the necessity to clarify what means human rights, who is the human, who can exercise the right. Sometimes there might be the necessity to clarify if some are less human than others, and many other issues”. PM Pashinyan said, adding that this means that democracy, particularly in Armenia, has still a very long way to pass.

''One thing is clear. Our Government is committed to democratic values. I have announced many times that I assess democracy as an endemic value for us, but not something imported from another country or some other regions”, Pashinyan said, expressing satisfaction for the opportunity to meet with the representatives of the NGOs. Pashinyan highlighted the role of the civil society in the development and strengthening of democracy in our country, noting that the Government has included civil society representatives in the process of fight against corruption and judicial reforms.

Afterwards, PM Pashinyan answered the questions of the participants of the meeting, listened to their remarks and proposals.
