Armenian Grandmasters among leaders at Bad Wiessee

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. GM Robert Hovhannisyan has scored 6 points after seven rounds and is leading with 12 other participants at the international open in Bad Wiessee, Germany. GM Hrant Melkumyan is only half a point behind the leaders. The Chess Federation of Armenia informed “Armenpress” about this.

The 18th Offene Internationale Bayerische Schachmeisterschaft is taking place from 25th October to 2nd November 2014 in Bad Wiessee, a spa town on Lake Tagernsee in Bavarian Region of Germany. The event is a 9-round Swiss with time control 2.500 €.

Robert Hovhannisyan (born March 23, 1991) is an Armenian chess Grandmaster (2010). He won the 71st Armenian Chess Championship in 2011 and was a member of the gold-medal winning Armenian team at the World Team Chess Championship in Ningbo 2011. In August 2011 he came second in the World Junior Chess Championship in Chennai. In January 2012 he took second place in the 72nd Armenian Chess Championship.[4] In 2013 he won the 6th Karen Asrian Memorial in Jermuk.
