Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinema has new Rector

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema has a new Rector - writer, film critic David Muradyan. The members of the Governing Board of the Institute voted for him on June 2 sitting, where he had presented his program. "Armenpress" correspondent reports from the Institute that a secret voting was held. The Governing Board comprises 24 members: 6 people from each – the Institute professors, the students, the Ministry of Culture. The Governing Board is chaired by the Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan.

Yerevan State Fine Arts and Theatre Institute was founded in 1944 and had three divisions: acting, directing, theatrical. In 1999, the Institute expanded its professional orientation and gained the name Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinema. The position of the Rector has been vacant since January 8 when the former Rector Armen Mazmanyan passed away.

Writer, film critic David Muradyan was born in 1951. He is the President of the Armenian National Film Academy, Professor of Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema. His first book was published in 1976, later he became the author of 8 more books. In 1994-1996 and 2001-2008, he was the Vice President of the Writers' Union of Armenia, in 2008-2010 he was the Deputy Minister of Culture, he is a "Golden pen" award winner, and is honored with the "Honoured Art Worker" title.
