Armenia counts on Georgia’s support in joining the Black Sea Cable project: Deputy Foreign Minister

YEREVAN, JUNE 4, ARMENPRESS. For at least two or three years, quite intensive work has been done to raise the relations between Armenia and Georgia to the level of strategic partnership, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahan Kostanyan said during the discussion of the annual report 'On the Execution of the Republic of Armenia 2023 State Budget' at the joint session of the National Assembly Standing Committees.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs reminded that on January 26 of the current year, the Prime Ministers of the two states signed the relevant declaration.

“On the same day the session of the intergovernmental commission was held under the leadership of the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia,” Kostanyan said.

The deputy minister presented the political and economic component of the strategic partnership declaration signed between Armenia and Georgia.

"The political component is that Armenia and Georgia unconditionally recognize each other’s territorial integrity. Moreover, an agreement has been reached that the delimitation process between Armenia and Georgia, which has stopped in recent years, should be continued and brought to its logical conclusion.

From an economic point of view, it is very important that agreements have been reached that Armenia and Georgia should work together for the implementation of projects of regional strategic importance.

The Black Sea Cable project is very important for us, in which Georgia is involved and plays an important role. We count on the support of our Georgian partners so that Armenia becomes a part of this project. In order to technically become a part of the project, the Republic of Armenia needs to complete certain homework on updating and improving its energy infrastructure.

In this regard, appropriate instructions have been given and work is underway," said Kostanyan.
