Two Armenian villages in Kotayk province to be provided with irrigation system with support of Japanese Embassy

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 12, ARMENPRESS. The Embassy of Japan in Armenia and the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) Armenia signed a grant program on October 12 aimed at providing Aramus and Saralanj villages of Kotayk province with an irrigation system.

Over 92,000 US dollars will be provided for the implementation of the project.

In his remarks Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Vache Terteryan said he highly values the provision of this grant which will ensure Aramus and Saralanj settlements with an irrigation system within the frames of the Japanese government’s Grassroots Human Security Projects.

“It aims at ensuring the supply of sustainable water resources to these two communities through the installation of new irrigation pipelines, which will increase productivity and will improve the livelihood of the residents in Aramus and Saralanj villages”, the deputy minister said.

Ambassador of Japan to Armenia Fukushima Masanori said the construction of irrigation system is directed to raising the productivity and improving the life quality of the rural people.

“I hope this assistance will raise the life quality of the residents and will ensure their social and economic welfare”, the Ambassador said.

Head of the ACTED Armenia Office Sarkis Dolmadjian stated that they have examined the irrigation system in Kotayk province in recent months. And the idea of the project came after different discussions with partners.

“The project aims to provide the two communities with the supply of sustainable water resources through the installation of new irrigation pipelines. As a result of the project, around 560 households will be able to use irrigation water”, he said.
