‘Outside interference isn’t useful’ – EU envoy on transitional justice in Armenia

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 26, ARMENPRESS. EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Switalski says it is up to Armenia to decide whether or not to establish a transitional justice system.

“Armenians must together decide whether or not they need it,” he told a news conference today.

“The practice of other countries shows that outside interference isn’t much useful. The government has said that judiciary reforms is among priorities,” the EU envoy said.

According to Switalski, the EU takes very seriously the transformation of the judiciary.

“I believe in terms of assessment of the judiciary system Armenia has a very different situation if we were to compare with the pre-April, May 2018 situation,” he said.

Since the new government took office, there’s been vague discussions over establishing transitional justice. However, concrete actions in this regard are yet to come.
