Serzh Sargsyan holds meeting with Germany’s Goethe Institute president

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting on June 2 with Klaus-Dieter Lehmann – President of Germany’s Goethe Institute, the president’s office told ARMENPRESS.

During the meeting the president expressed hope that Mr. Lehmann’s visit will become a new beginning for the development of Armenian-German educational-cultural cooperation and also for strengthening bilateral inter-governmental relations.

Mentioning that this year marks the 25th anniversary of establishing Armenian-German diplomatic relations, president Sargsyan noted that during these past years the Armenian-German ties have progressively developed: a high level political dialogue was established, stable inter-parliamentary relations were developed, commercial ties are successfully being developed, as well as cooperation in educational and cultural fields and on the decentralized level.

All of the abovementioned, according to the president, is a good basis for promoting advanced training of the German language in Armenia, which in its turn will contribute to enhancing bilateral ties in all mutually beneficial sectors.

In this context, the sides discussed other opportunities of promoting the language in Armenia, in addition to the German Training Center which operates since 2009. They discussed the issue of establishing the Goethe Institute Center in Armenia. The President said he is ready to provide state assistance for realizing this initiative if a decision is made.

Klaus-Dieter Lehmann reassured that the Goethe Institute will put the best effort for the development of cooperation with Armenia.
