YEREVAN BESTSELLER 4/60: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini debuts in top 10

This week’s top bestselling book is Edgar Harutyunyan’s Unfound Chamomilescollection. This is the second book of the author. Unfound Chamomiles is about human relationship, love, friendship and betrayal.

Mark Aren’s Where Wild Roses Bloomremains on the second position, just like last week.

The story describes the inner world of an Armenophobic Turkish former serviceman, when he, already an old man, suddenly hears a lullaby song that reminds him of his mother and later finds out that the song is in Armenian: realizing his parents were Armenians. He spends his remaining life searching the graves of his parents, without knowing that it was a misunderstanding.

Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Graycomes next in the bestselling list of the week. Dorian Gray is the subject of a full-length portrait in oil by Basil Hallward, an artist who is impressed and infatuated by Dorian'sbeauty; he believes that Dorian's beauty is responsible for the new mode in his art as a painter. Through Basil, Dorian meets Lord Henry Wotton, and he soon is enthralled by the aristocrat'shedonisticworldview: that beauty and sensual fulfillment are the only things worth pursuing in life.

Aram Pachyan’s ‘Goodbye, Bird’ has advanced in the list with one point, ranking 4th in the list. The book describes the inner world of a man who has been demobilized from the Army.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamasis ranked 5th in the list. Itis a 2006Holocaustnovel byIrish novelistJohn Boyne. Unlike themonths of planning Boyne devoted to his other books, he said that he wrote the entire first draft ofThe Boy in the Striped Pyjamasin two and a half days, barely sleeping until he got to the end.

Stefan Zweig’s Collected Storiescomes next. Zweig was an Austrian novelist, playwright, journalist and biographer. At the height of his literary career, in the 1920s and 1930s, he was one of the most popular writers in the world. The book was translated by Ara Arakelyan and Margarit Arakelyan.

The Alchemist by Brazilian authorPaulo Coelho has returned to the list. Originally written inPortuguese, it has been translated into at least 69 languages as of December 2016.Anallegoricalnovel,The Alchemistfollows a youngAndalusianshepherd in his journey toEgypt, after having a recurring dream of finding treasure there.

Spencer Johnson’s Who Moved My Cheeseis next. Published on September 8, 1998, Who Moved My Cheese is amotivationalbusiness fable. ANew York Times businessbestsellerupon release,Who Moved My Cheese?remained on the list for almost five years and spent over 200 weeks onPublishers Weekly's hardcover nonfiction list. It has sold more than 26 million copies worldwide in 37 languages and remains one of the best-selling business books.

The Kite RunnerbyAfghan-AmericanauthorKhaled Hosseini has debuted in the list.Published in 2003 byRiverhead Books, it tells the story of Amir, a young boy from theWazir Akbar Khandistrict ofKabul, whose closest friend is Hassan, his father's youngHazaraservant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall ofAfghanistan's monarchythrough theSoviet military intervention, the exodus ofrefugeestoPakistanand the United States, and the rise of theTalibanregime.

Inferno by American authorDan Brown concludes the list. It isthe fourth book in hisRobert Langdonseries, followingAngels & Demons,The Da Vinci CodeandThe Lost Symbol. The book was released on May 14, 2013 byDoubleday.It was number one on theNew York TimesBest Seller list for hardcover fiction and Combined Print & E-book fiction for the first eleven weeks of its release, and also remained on the list of E-book fiction for the first seventeen weeks of its release. Afilm adaptationwas released in theUnited Stateson October 28, 2016.
