Yerevan city authorities are working to upgrade the area around Salt Lake, a highly saline lake tucked away behind the backstreets of the Erebuni district.
Salt Lake has increasingly become popular as a leisure destination, mostly due to the perceived health benefits of its highly saline water.
Officials at a City Hall executive meeting on Monday revealed plans to develop the area.
The area around Yerevan’s Salt Lake will be improved and given a new look. Tenders for the construction works to improve the area and for technical supervision have already been held, and the contracts are now at the signing stage.
Acting head of the Construction and Improvement Department of Yerevan Municipality Andranik Tevosyan announced the plans.
“The tenders for the construction works to improve the Salt Lake area and for technical supervision have been held, and the contracts are at the signing stage. The construction of a parking lot, an outdoor lighting system, water supply and sewerage systems, showers and restrooms, and a sports area equipped with exercise equipment is planned. We plan to start the work by the end of this week,” Tevosyan said.
