Yerevan’s Hrazdan Gorge designated as specially protected natural area

The Yerevan City Council designated Hrazdan Gorge as a specially protected natural area of local significance under the “protected landscape” category at a session on October 13.

The relevant motion was presented at the session by Sirarpi Haykazyan, head of the Environmental Protection Department of Yerevan City Hall.

“Hrazdan Gorge, as a ‘protected landscape,’ must have a management plan. It will take a considerable amount of time to develop this plan. An organization has been selected through a tender announced by the Asian Development Bank to develop the management plan. Until the plan is developed, special measures will be implemented to preserve the gorge’s current condition and develop environmentally accessible recreational opportunities, allowing visitors to connect with nature while minimizing the impact on biodiversity and ecosystem processes,” Sirarpi Haykazyan said.
