YEREVAN, APRIL 3, ARMENPRESS. President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting on April 3 with the CIS observer mission delegation, led by CIS executive secretary Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in Armenia to observe the April 2 parliamentary election, the President’s Office told ARMENPRESS.
The President welcomed the delegation in Armenia and thanked them for the active participation in observing the election.
President Sargsyan expressed certainty that the CIS observers will present a balanced, impartial summarizing report on the election results, will make their assessment, remarks and consultations, which will contribute to the continuous improvement of election processes in Armenia.
Serzh Sargsyan once again underscored the significance of the parliamentary election for Armenia after the constitutional referendum, and mentioned that large-scale preparation work has been carried out with the purpose of holding the election in accordance with international standards, with the participation and assistance of civil society, political forces, partner organizations and structures.
Armenia is transitioning to a new administration system, and in President Sargsyan’s conviction, it is extremely important that the election inspire trust with its quality to the citizens of Armenia and all colleagues.
Sergey Lebedev, head of the CIS observer mission, expressed gratitude for inviting his delegation to Armenia.
Lebedev underscored that a rather serious approach was displayed towards the formation of the observer mission, comprising 172 representatives from 8 CIS countries.
The mission, which is in Armenia since March 14, according to him, has been in all provinces and received the necessary assistance from the CEC and all structures and organizations responsible for the election process while carrying out their work, which enabled to form a rather wide and objective picture on the process.
The CIS observer mission head was pleased to note the participation of the large number of local observers, which, in his words is unprecedented.
The sides also discussed issues related to development of cooperation within CIS.
