President Sargsyan comments on possibility to shift to one-degree system of academic degree awarding

YEREVAN, MARCH 17, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan commented on rumors of transforming from two-degree system of academy degree awarding to one-degree system, reports “Armenpress”.

During the presentation of the annual report of the chairmanship at the National Academy of Sciences, the President said the switch to one-degree system will result in serious problems.

“I think that there had not been any serious opinions or works on this path in order to transform to one-degree system. I have heard rumors, I was interested there is no such plan. Certain changes are expected, however, there is no draft law on this, and I haven’t seen it”, President Sargsyan said.

Serzh Sargsyan added that Armenia must be consistent with the European academic environment, but it also must maintain its uniqueness. “Whatever we do, we must do it well thought and after extensive discussions with the specialists. Without discussions there would not be such draft law”, the President said.
