President Sargsyan holds meeting with Russian State Duma Chairman

YEREVAN, MARCH 3, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting on March 3 with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, who has arrived in Armenia on an official visit, the President’s Office told ARMENPRESS.

The President welcomed Volodin and mentioned this is the first meeting with him after being elected Chairman of the State Duma and wished successes and congratulated Volodin.

Serzh Sargsyan expressed certitude that the great experience of Vyacheslav Volodin in state activities will have its significant contribution also in developing the Armenian-Russian relations, which will be boosted by his visit to Armenia.

Stressing that exactly one month later, on April 3, the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Armenia and Russia will be marked, President Sargsyan said each holiday is a good chance to summarize and assess bilateral relations and set landmarks for the future.

Vyacheslav Volodin was pleased to state that within the framework of the visit, meetings with Armenia’s parliamentarians are taking place in the 25th year of establishing diplomatic ties between the two strategic partner states. Mentioning the dynamic development of interstate relations and that there are many topics to discuss and summarize, Volodin stressed parliamentarians of the two countries plan to expand the circle of relations and cooperation, with the purpose of which chairmen of the Duma’s committees, who are included in his delegation, will have meetings and get to know Armenian colleagues, will discuss issues of mutual interest. Volodin informed that the delegation includes heads of legislative bodies of Krasnodar and Crimea – where big Armenian communities exists, and highlighted development of bilateral relations on regional level.

The sides greatly highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy for strengthening interstate relations and stressed the need for continuous strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties.
