Armenian President receives delegation led by Speaker of National Council of Republic of Slovakia

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received on November 3 the delegation led by Speaker of the National Council of the Republic of Slovakia Andrej Danko.
As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Armenian President’s Office, the President of the Republic greeted the guests and stated that Armenia attaches great importance to inter-parliamentary cooperation taking it as an important ingredient of inter-state relations. Serzh Sargsyan hopes that the visit of the Speaker of the National Council of the Republic of Slovakia will open a new page in the strengthening and deepening of relations between the legislatives of the two friendly countries. Mentioning that though this is the first visit of Mr. Danko to Armenia as the Speaker of the National Council of the Republic of Slovakia, Serzh Sargsyan recalled his visit to Armenia in April, 2015 to participate in the commemoration events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. In the context, President Sargsyan expressed gratitude to Andrej Danko for his firm stand in the works aimed at recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, highly appreciating also the efforts of all the Slovak parliamentarians who also had a great contribution to the recognition, condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and criminalization of its denial.
The Armenian President was satisfied to record that Slovakia is among Armenia’s key partners in Europe, with which Armenia is interested to expand and develop political, economic, cultural cooperation.
The interlocutors assessed Armenian-Slovak partnership in the sidelines of international organizations as effective.
The Speaker of the National Council of the Republic of Slovakia thanked for the cordial reception and stated that he greatly respects the Armenian people and its centuries-old history, assessing the contribution of the Armenian people to the European civilization extremely high.
In addition to Armenian-Slovak bilateral relation, the sides also touched upon Armenia-EU relations based on common European values and regional issues, including Nagorno Karabakh issue and the process of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
