President Sargsyan holds bilateral meetings in New York

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 11, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan held a number of bilateral meetings while on a working visit to the United States within the framework of the “Armenia Investment Forum” in New York.

President Sargsyan had discussions with Vice-President of Asian Development Bank Wencai Zhang, President and CEO of “Lydian International” Howard Stevenson and CEO of Contour Global Joseph Brandt.

During the meeting with the Vice President of Asian Development Bank, President Sargsyan highly praised the mission of the bank and its role in the development of Armenia’s economy. President Sargsyan underscored that during the previous 10 years of Armenia’s membership to the ADB a productive cooperation has been formed. Serzh Sargsyan attached importance to the ADB funded large investment projects in Armenia, including the infrastructure development, technical assistance in various fields, funding projects of private sector, which are aimed at increasing economic competitiveness and ensuring stable economic growth.

Serzh Sargsyan attached great importance to attracting investment in the current stage of Armenia’s economic development and thanked the ADB for assisting the organization of the New York Forum.

The sides exchanged views regarding the bank’s assistance within the framework of the ADB’s “Armenia’s Partnership Strategy” for the development of fields which are considered priority.

ADB Vice President Wencai Zhang announced the ADB will continue cooperating with the Armenian Government, planning assistance for social infrastructure, development of economic corridors, reforms, and implementations of innovative projects - in addition to the ongoing projects, which in his conviction will contribute to attracting investment in the country’s economy.

During the meeting of Serzh Sargsyan and “Lydian International” President and CEO Howard Stevenson, the sides touched upon the ongoing activities of “Lydian Armenia”, which is engaged in discovery and development of mineral deposits in Armenia, particularly the development projects and activities of the company in the Amulsar mine. The 100% shareholder of Lydian Armenia, Lydian International’s President assured President Sargsyan that the ongoing large mining investment project, which is carried out in accordance to international standards and meets all environmental protection standards will also contribute to communities, and overall the development of Armenia’s economy and will positively impact the GDP. Howard Stevenson highlighted that his company tries to show that with modern technologies, it is possible to develop beneficial mining for all sides – the state, private sector and communities, and that Armenia is an open country for investments.

On October 10 President Sargsyan also held a meeting with CEO of the energy producing “Contour Global” international company Joseph Brandt. The sides discussed the activities of the “Contour Global Hydro Cascade” office, which opened a year ago in Yerevan, the results of the period and the preliminary works of the next stage of investment.

The sides praised the level of cooperation, which has allowed achieving results in a short period of activities.
