Levon Hayrapetyan incarcerated in Russia’s most notoriously horrible prison

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 10, ARMENPRESS. Russian based Armenian entrepreneur, philanthropist Levon Hayrapetyan has been transferred to a prison in Mordovia which is considered to be the most notorious and terrible prison in Russia.

Hayrapetyan’s health condition is currently normal, however such prison conditions are contraindicated for him, attorney Haykaz Makaryan told reporters on October 10.

“Mr. Hayrapetyan doesn’t yet understand by whose order he is treated in such way. Attorney’s have instilled some hope to his wife that he might be released until the end of the year. And recently a group of prominent attorneys announced that it is unclear how Hayrapetyan is being held in prison in the absence of “corpus delicti” and any substantial evidence”, Makaryan said, adding that Mr. Hayrapetyan has transferred several millions of dollars to the NKR fund during the four day war in April.

According to him, the Armenian authorities must act in order to correct the situation. He called on the Armenian authorities to discuss the extradition of Levon Hayrapetyan.

“Levon Hayrapetyan has dual citizenship, and agreements between Armenia and Russia state it is possible to extradite a person under similar circumstances, especially in the case of a man who has even received a medal from the State Duma”, he said.
