Yerevan bestseller: Nobel laureate’s work among rankings

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. This week’s ranking of the "Armenpress" news agency’s "Yerevan bestseller" project is led by Edgar Harutyunyan's "Art of Devotion or Ode to Rose" collection.

Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist" is 2nd. The novel is about having a dream and the dedication to making it come true, coupled with love, kindness and the ability to recognize a new country.

The next book in the bestselling list is American writer Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s "The Great Gatsby", which was first published in 1925, and is considered one of the typical works of American literature of the "jazz era". Milan Kundera’s "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" comes 4th. This is the author's most famous work, which also symbolizes a new qualitative level of novels the 20th century. The novel is about love and unordinary relationships, about a tragic period of history, written with original philosophical reflections regarding the incompatible dualism of body and soul, real opportunities and the difficulties of realizing them.

“Thus spoke Zarathustra” by Friedrich Nietzsche is a novel which summons up the German philosopher’s basic views by poetic inspirations. It was published in Armenian language in 2002.

English writer Oscar Wilde’s novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, which is considered one of his most significant works, is ranked 6th.It is one of the most read books in the world. The plot of the novel is in line with the content of those books, where the main character sells his soul to the devil, and in return gets eternal youth, beauty and power.

John Green’s “The Fault in our Stars” is ranked 7th. Courageous, edgy and daring, this is John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work, which explores the tragic, glorious, touching and funny situations of falling in love.

Grig’s "Jesus’ Cat" is ranked 8th. This is the young writer’s first book, which on one hand brings together, original writing style, on the other hand, a view of the world from a unique angle. The characters help to uncover another, unseen side of life.

Patrick Modiano’s "So you don’t get lost in the neighborhood” is 9th.

The novel is a journey from loneliness to solitude, while at the same time the story resembles colorful urban city life.

George Orwell's "1984" concludes the ranking. It was published in “Antares” publishing house under the “Prohibited Books "series. The book bears the label to this day in many countries.
