YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS. Delegation headed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan, participated in the opening of Eurasian Economic Forumin Xi'an on September 24. The forum is organized once in two years with the participation of governments of many countries, heads of international organizations and large enterprises.
As “Armenpress” was informed from the Information and Public Relations Department of the Government of Armenia, PM Hovik Abrahamyan gave a speech at the opening of the forum themed “New model of cooperation: Joint development of Silk Road countries”.
Addressing to the present, Hovik Abrahamyan said. “In the 21st century the economic success of any state largely depends on its capability to fit in new global realities and integrate in global economy. Reconstruction of the Silk Road will become the fundament for the new stage of integration processes. For centuries Armenia has been considered an important transit route of Silk Road linking Europe with Asia. With such a historical experience it is natural that Armenia hailed the idea of Silk Road economic zone which was put forward by President XiJinping in 2013. Targeted activities are already underway aimed to fulfill the project in the sections where Armenia can have its contribution. Besides, today Armenia is a country with huge potentials for international economic cooperation of different formats and human recourses due to its geographic location. The directs access to the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union and CIS member states, preferential trade regime with the EU, friendly relations with Iran and Arabic states, as well as friendly environment for investments and business will foster economic relations and expansion of cooperation aimed to the development of Eurasian states. Currently large infrastructural projects are being implemented aimed to reinforcing Armenia’s role as a link connecting Europe, the Middle East and Asia”.
Hovik Abrahamyan emphasized that one of those projects is the implementation of "North South RoadCorridor" investment program, which has huge regional and geopolitical importance. According to him, an important component of "North South RoadCorridor" will also be Armenia-Iran railway communication which will ensure proportionate and balanced development of the region.
PM Abrahamyan continued, “Thus, Armenia once again expresses its readiness to actively engage in the creation of the Silk Road, underlining the slogan of the ideology of the project: Word for the sake of development”.
