Ministry of Diaspora hosts American Armenian benefactor Silva Chakmakchian

YEREVAN, AUGUST 25, ARMENPRESS. The Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia, Hranush Hakobyan, received American Armenian businesswoman, founding director of the world famous Silvia’s Costumes clothing store, benefactor Silva Chakmakchian. As “Armenpress” was informed from the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Diaspora, highly appreciating Silva Chakmakchian’s activities and achievements, the Minister of Diaspora mentioned, “Silva was born in Beirut, in a family of Syrian Armenians. During the “Great Repatriation” of 1946-1947 she moved to Armenia with her family. At the age of 19 she left for the USA with her mother.

At the age of 33 she created her own business, Silvia’s Costumes, and her company sews clothes for famous artists, singers, prominent cultural figures. Silva always helps the Armenian community and the Church of Los Angeles. She has implemented numerous projects, became friend of lots of organizations and a benefactor. She also helped socially vulnerable population of Armenia by sending clothes and aids”

Minister Hranush Hakobyan attached great importance to Silva Chakmakchian’s assistance to Aleppo’s nursing home, where 46 elderly people reside. Silva took the problem of their nutrition and care on her shoulders.

President of the“CenterforCoordinationof Syrian-Armenians'Issues”NGO, Lena Halajian also thanked Silva Chakmakchian for her support to Syrian Armenians and mentioned that she is proud to have such a compatriot.

As a businesswoman our compatriot received several awards, including from the President of the USA, Barack Obama. She was also awarded with “Cilician Knight” Medal by Catholicos Aram I.
