Washington, JULY 18, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian National Committee of America will continue efforts to increase US foreign aid in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. Spokeswoman of Armenian National Committee of America Elizabeth Chuljyantold “Armenpress”. “The Armenian National Committee of America will continue to pressure in order to preserve the foreign aid allocated by the US to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. We also call to allocate financial aid to Syrian Armenians for their re-settlement who migrated and live there”, Chuljyan said.
The Senate Committee on Appropriations, discussing allocation of US foreign aid to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh on July 10, suggested increasing the financial aid to Nagorno Karabakh in the fiscal year of 2016 aimed to help the people affected as a result of the conflict and meet their needs. As for Armenia, it was proposed to allocate 20 million and 60 thousand USD economic aid and 1 million 700 thousand USD military aid as well as 600 thousand USD for international military education. The suggested aid of 20 million 60 thousand USD is 10 percent more than Barack Obama’s proposed aid.
Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives, discussing the foreign aid, silently gave consent over the Armenian allocations.
According to Chuljyan, it is not the first time that one of the chambers of the US Congress preserves silence over Armenian allocations. “The next step must be that the resolution submitted by any committee be discussed at the plenary session of the two chambers, and the differences must be settled. Generally, priority is given to the proposal of the chamber which has precise position. The other option is that neither of the resolutions will be discussed. Instead, one and unified document will be adopted”, she explained, informing that the final decision must be made until October.
