Armenian FM says various possibilities exist for resolving enclave-exclave issue

Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan has addressed possible solutions to the issue of enclaves and exclaves between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Mirzoyan addressed the issue during a joint press conference with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis, when asked by a reporter about Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s October 14 statement on the matter.

Addressing the issue, Mirzoyan noted that there are various possible solutions to the problem, which are being discussed and will be discussed in depth with Azerbaijan.

He emphasized that he did not want to predetermine any agreement, but noted that if a decision is made to transfer something from the territory of the Republic of Armenia, which covers 29,743 square kilometers, and receive something in return, the question of a nationwide vote may arise.

Mirzoyan emphasized that the exchange of enclaves and exclaves is one of the possible solutions, and theoretically, other options may also exist.

“I can say that the Azerbaijani side also has a constructive approach to this issue,” the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade concluded.

Pashinyan most recently said on October 15 that the exchange of the existing enclaves and exclaves between Armenia and Azerbaijan is one of the options being discussed in the negotiation process.
