YEREVAN, JULY 14, ARMENPRESS. Co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group James Warlickannounced that in spite of the tense situation and the arms enhancement, Nagorno Karabkh conflict must be settled through peaceful negotiations. As reports “Armenpress”, Warlick spoke about the work done by the Minsk Group in an interview given to the Russian “Vedomosti” Periodic, mentioning that though the sides have signed an agreement of ceasefire, the ceasefire is not maintained.

The Co-chair expressed concern over the intensification of the situation in the region. He brought the incidents of August 2014 as an example, adding that breaking of the ceasefire caused numerous causalities. To the question of the journalist what is Washington’s attitude towards the arms stocks of Azerbaijan, the Co-chair emphasized that the sides have full rights to secure themselves. “In this regard we understand why they try to acquire armaments from different distributors. Simultaneously, we are worried about the arms enhancement both in the conflict zone and Armenian-Azerbaijani border. It is not only about the quantity of arms but also about the change of its type. For instance, if in the past the regime of ceasefire was broken by snipers, today heavy equipment is used”, said the Co-chair.

Warlich did not have an opportunity to discuss the conflict with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the RF Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. The Co-chair spoke about the Artsakh problem with the Deputy Foreign Minister of the RF Grigory Karasin.
