YEREVAN, AUGUST 14, ARMENPRESS. The U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern assesses the trilateral meeting in Sochi held on August 10 and the agreements reached there as positive and useful. In an interview with "Armenpress", the Ambassador expressed hope that the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will meet again in the near future. "It was helpful for both Presidents to reaffirm their commitment to resolving the conflict through peaceful means. Too much time had passed since the last meeting of the Presidents in Vienna. The Sochi meeting was long overdue and we hope they can meet again soon. We need a more active negotiating process to make progress on key issues," John Heffern said.

Answering the question that the Armenian Armed Forces had prevented 20 subversive attacks of the rival during one week, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev posted belligerent statements on his Twitter micro blog, particularly writing that the start of a new war is close, the Ambassador advised to refrain from any actions that could aggravate the situation. Among other things, the Ambassador highlighted: “Provocative statements and attacks along the Line of Contact increase tensions between the sides and do not help our mutual goal of resolving the conflict peacefully. It is necessary for both sides to strictly respect the ceasefire and to refrain from any actions that could aggravate the situation.”
