Tigran Sargsyan urges citizens to fight against smoking

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. Fight against smoking is not so active within the society. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan expressed such a viewpoint at the course of the meeting with the representatives of Mass Media. Tigran Sargsyan noted that Armenia holds one of the first places in the world on the usage of cigarettes and alcohol of one person. “We must actively fight against this defective phenomenon, which first of all strikes the health of our society,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the number of citizens realizing the danger of cigarettes must grow day by day. “We have already accepted the law, but there are no operative mechanisms in the law how to fight, for example, against violators of the law in public places. Great responsibility will be put over the structure that will control the issue. We have to completely develop and send the law to the National Assembly,” Tigran Sargsyan added.

In case of the ratification of the law, tobacco advertising on TV and Radio and other electronic means of information will be banned in Armenia. The law will prohibit any advertisements on tobacco products, sale promotion and sponsorship.
