Davit Safaryan declared best Armenian athlete of the year

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. World freestyle wrestling champion Davit Safaryan was declared the best Armenian athlete of the year according to the polls conducted by the Sports Journalists’ Federation of Armenia.

As report “Armenpress”, Arthur Alexanyan occupies the second position; Arsen Julfalakyan and Romik Amoyan occupy the third and fourth horizontals respectively. All of them won prizes at the world championship.

David Safaryan was born 1 August 1989 in Cherkessk. He is an Armenian world and European champion Freestyle wrestler. He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the men's freestyle 66 kg division. He won the gold medal of 2013 World Wrestling Championship.

Safaryan won a gold medal at the 2013 European Wrestling Championships in Tbilisi and became a European Champion. He is the first Armenian to become a European Champion in freestyle wrestling in nine years. Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili came up and congratulated David afterward.
