Armenia's CU integration to foster jewelry development

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS: After Armenia joins the Customs Union a considerable growth will be registered in jewelry development. The Chairman of the Jewelers’ Union of Armenia Emil Grigoryan stated about it on December13 at the opening of the 10th international jewelry exhibition-sale. “After we join the Customs Union, we should preserve our jewelry privileges, as we are demanded in the market and have been demanded for long years. The growth of the field will be considerable”, - said Emil Grigoryan, Armenpress reports.

According to Grigoryan, 80% of the jewelry goods, produced in Armenia, are exported to USA, CIS and Europe. “The development prospects make us believe that our production will continue developing in those countries”, - said the Chairman of the Jewelers’ Union of Armenia.

The volumes of the production of diamonds in Armenia registered a considerable growth by 47,8% during the months of January-October and made 73,572 carats. The volumes of the jewelry production have increased by 15,8% reaching 879,6 kilograms. During the months of January-October of 2012 49,478 carats of diamonds and 759,7 kilograms of jewelry products were produced in our country. In January-October 2013 the volumes of the diamonds exported from Armenia increased by 58% and made 164,800 carats, the half of which was purchased by Belgium.
