"Armenpress" introduces 32nd bestseller books list

YEREVAN, AUGUST 23, ARMENPRESS.The Armenian version of prominent Azerbaijani writer Akram Aylisli's "Stone Dreams" published by "Graber" publishing house tops this week’s "Bestseller Books List" introduced by "Armenpress" News Agency. Artak Vardanyan translated the novel into Armenian. Aram Ananyan authored the preface of the book and the publication was edited by Seyranuhi Geghamyan.Aylisli's "Stone Dreams" novel caused a lot of noise and hysteria in Azerbaijan. On February 7, 2013, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a presidential decree that stripped Aylisli of the title of "People's Writer" and the presidential pension. Earlier, Aylisli confirmed reports that his son, a customs official, and wife were dismissed from their jobs.

"The Little Prince" by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry occupies the second position. The novella is both the most read and most translated book in the French language, and was voted the best book of the 20th century in France. The book was translated into more than 250 languages and dialects, as well as Braille.

"Stone Dreams" by Akram Aylisli published by "Edit Print" publishing house occupies the third place. "Lonely" by modern Armenian author Ashot Aghababyan occupies the fourth position. “Enoch’s Eye” by contemporary Armenian writer Gurgen Khanjyan appeared on the fifth position. “Robinson” by young author Aram Pachyan is the sixth.

"Tropic of Cancer" by Henry Miller occupies the seventh position of this week’s list. It was first published in 1934 by the Obelisk Press in Paris, France, but this edition was banned in the United States. Its publication in 1961 in the U.S. by Grove Press led to obscenity trials that tested American laws on pornography in the early 1960s. In 1964, the U.S. Supreme Court declared the book non-obscene. It is widely regarded as an important masterpiece of 20th century literature.

The next is "Bastard of Istanbul" by Elif Şafak. The book is dedicated to various problems the modern Turkey has to face with. The author pays a lot of attention to the issue of the Armenian Genocide, which has become an insuperable complex in the psychology of the Turks. Elif Şafak's books have been translated into more than thirty languages, and she was awarded the honorary distinction of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters.

Elif Şafak’s "Bastard of Istanbul" is followed by "The Reader", novel by German writer Bernhard Schlink, which occupies the eighth position of the bestseller books list introduced by "Armenpress" News Agency. The Reader by German law professor and judge Bernhard Schlink was published in Germany in 1995 and in the United States in 1997. The story is a parable, dealing with the difficulties post-war German generations have had comprehending the Holocaust

The publication of "The Fool" and "The Memoir of a Cross-Stealer" by prominent Armenian novelist Raffi occupies the final position of the this week’s "Bestseller Books List" introduced by "Armenpress" News Agency.
