Iranian sports minister visits Yerevan State College of Olympic Reserve

The delegation led by Iranian Minister of Sports and Youth Ahmad Donyamali visited the Yerevan State Sports College of Olympic Reserve as part of his official visit to Armenia.

Accompanied by Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, Donyamali learned about the institution’s activities, the training and living conditions of athletes, as well as infrastructure improvements implemented in recent years.

The Armenian ministry said in a press release that the delegation toured the college’s weightlifting gym, learning about the conditions for organizing the training process and the available equipment. The progress of reconstruction work in the wrestling and boxing gyms was also presented.

Andreasyan and Donyamali also visited the college dormitory, where 170 students from Armenia’s provinces reside and are provided with accommodation and three meals a day at the state’s expense.

The college currently has more than 700 students receiving coaching education in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, weightlifting, judo, boxing, athletics, football and other sports. Vardan Tovmasyan, the college’s deputy director for sports, presented the students’ sporting achievements in recent years, noting that the college has more than 30 medalists at world and European championships every year.

Particular attention was paid to the long-standing traditions of cooperation between Armenia and Iran in wrestling. It was noted that the college recently hosted Iranian athletes for joint training camps. Armenian wrestlers also actively participate in international tournaments organized in Iran.

Minister Andreasyan and her Iranian counterpart Ahmad Donyamali emphasized the importance of deepening sports cooperation between the two countries, organizing joint training camps, and expanding opportunities for young athletes to exchange experience.

The delegation members also visited the college museum, where they learned about the institution’s history, sporting traditions and achievements.

The delegation led by Ahmad Donyamali also visited the Sports Management Center, where, accompanied by the center’s director, Khoren Zargaryan, they learned about its main areas of activity, ongoing programs and infrastructure.

The delegation led by Iranian Minister of Sports and Youth Ahmad Donyamali subsequently visited the Yerevan Children and Youth Tennis and Badminton Sports School. Visits to Yerevan State University and the National Gallery of Armenia are also planned.
