There is no new development in the discussions between Armenia and Russia over the concession management of Armenia’s railway, but the talks are continuing, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday.
“There has been no change in the situation, the discussions continue. This is a very sensitive issue. It is our property, and we should have the ability to manage our property the way we want,” Pashinyan said at a press briefing.
He noted that Armenia has set no deadline for resolving the issue.
“We are calmly discussing this issue in conjunction with other issues. We are working to resolve this problem as quickly as possible and in as friendly a manner as possible,” Pashinyan said.
Armenia has sought to change the current concession arrangement, under which Russia manages the Armenian railway through South Caucasus Railway. Pashinyan has said the arrangement creates sanctions-related obstacles and deprives Armenia of certain competitive advantages. He has proposed transferring the concession management to a third country friendly to both Armenia and Russia, a proposal that Russian officials have so far rejected.
