US-based Honored Artist of Armenia Hovhannes Babakhanyan will be on tour in Armenia.
Babakhanyan and actress Narine Chilingaryan will present the tragicomedy “Gary and Grace” to audiences at the H. Ghaplanyan Drama Theatre on September 16–17.
The production was directed by the actor’s son, director Gor Babakhanyan. It was first performed at the El Portal Theatre in Los Angeles.
The play “Gary and Grace” tells the story of elderly people living in a nursing home.
Gary, played by Hovhannes Babakhanyan, is an elderly Armenian man—a bearer of Armenian reality and roots—who has also ended up in that environment.
Narine Chilingaryan plays Grace, an 80-year-old American woman who lives with memories of the past and hopes that one day her fiancé will return from the war.
Despite their age, health problems and the difficulties of life, the characters are full of a desire to live, optimism and humor.
The warm relationship that develops between them helps them overcome loneliness and a sense of abandonment.
The play encourages young people to show warmth toward older people and remember that one day they too will reach that age. It calls on them to appreciate them now, while they are by the side of young people.
