Poland nearly halves number of work visas issued to foreigners

The number of work visas issued to foreign nationals in Poland between January and June 2026 nearly halved compared with the same period in 2025, according to figures published by Poland’s Interior Ministry on X.

In total, foreigners received 69,000 work visas in Poland in the first half of 2026. The Interior Ministry said 144,000 such visas were issued during the same period in 2025, compared with 173,000 between January and June 2024.

Meanwhile, police detained 11,000 foreigners in the first half of 2026 who were in the country with expired work permits. The number of such detentions was 70% lower in 2025.

According to the Interior Ministry, the number of foreign nationals deported from Poland has increased by 330% over the past three years. In 2023, 3,000 foreigners were deported from Poland. The number of deportations reached 10,000 in 2025, while 6,000 foreign nationals were deported from the country in the first half of 2026.
