By a decision issued by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on August 20, Vanik Avetisyan has been appointed head of the Office of the Security Council.
Avetisyan, born in Yerevan on May 9, 1993, graduated from the Athénée Royal d'Ixelles secondary school in Brussels. He studied political science at the Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels) from 2015 to 2018, earning a bachelor’s degree, and received a master’s degree in international relations from the same university in 2020, specializing in security, peace and conflicts.
From 2020 to 2022, Avetisyan worked as an international affairs adviser at the Brussels Regional Parliament. From 2022 to 2023, he worked at Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the iGorts program, in the ministry’s European Department.
From 2023 to 2025, he worked as an analyst at Three C Consulting, monitoring domestic and foreign policy in European countries, as well as the military-industrial sector.
Since 2026, Avetisyan has served as a chief specialist in the Department of External Relations and Protocol of the Office of the President of Armenia.
The position of head of the Office of the Security Council had been vacant since August 17, when acting head Anahit Shirinyan was dismissed.
The personnel change follows the dismissal of Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan. Former National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has been appointed Security Council Secretary.
