Armenia’s Defense Minister Suren Papikyan has announced that servicemembers who were previously declared unfit for military service due to serious combat-related injuries will now be allowed to apply again to voluntarily sign up for contract service, if they have recovered sufficiently.
“Reforms in the Ministry of Defense are continuing. I would like to inform you that during the electoral turbulence we adopted an important decision that could be of great significance for many of our war veterans.
As a result of the amendments and additions, soldiers who sustained severe injuries during combat operations and were declared unfit for military service are now given the opportunity to apply again for contract military service, provided they have recovered and regained a certain level of functional ability.
Of course, there will be exceptions for certain diseases that are truly incompatible with service, but the majority of our brothers may be able to rejoin service in the Ministry of Defense.
The legal regulation also stipulates that the final decision is made by the minister, and you can be confident in its objectivity.
We are happy to welcome all of you under the roof of the Ministry of Defense,” Papikyan said in a statement on social media.
