Over 50,000 pensioners have already received government-funded healthcare services worth around $11.4 million under the universal insurance system that came into force on January 1 this year, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Friday.
“As of January 29, 50,073 pensioners aged 65 and over have received healthcare services worth 4.3 billion drams [about $11.4 million], funded by the state budget,” Pashinyan said on social media.
The mandatory national health insurance plan will initially cover medical costs for minors and several vulnerable groups before being extended to the entire population.
The first phase of the universal health insurance system extends coverage to pensioners aged 65 and over, children, persons with disabilities, and citizens with a monthly salary of over 200,000 drams.
