The TRIPP project will in no way violate Armenia’s sovereignty, a senior lawmaker affirmed.

Member of Parliament Sargis Khandanyan (Civil Contract), who chairs the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, told reporters that Armenia will receive economic dividends through the connectivity project.

He was asked to comment at a press briefing on criticism regarding TRIPP.

“This is a statement adopted as a result of negotiations between the Armenian Foreign Minister and the U.S. Secretary of State, which represents a political objective,” he said, referring to the recently adopted joint statement on the TRIPP Implementation Framework.

“Legally binding documents will follow, including the agreement between Armenia and the United States and the charter documents of the TRIPP Development Company,” he added.

He emphasized that Armenia’s sovereignty is clearly and unequivocally guaranteed under the TRIPP project, while the country will also receive economic benefits.

“Armenia will not face any violations of its sovereignty through this project. On the contrary, it will gain dividends and participation in the company,” Khandanyan emphasized.

Addressing the topic of the possibility of renegotiating the document, he said that he currently sees no reason for it. “The document has been negotiated, and I see no basis for renegotiating it. On the contrary, it is a very good document,” he concluded.
