Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan took part in a meeting of the Working Group of the Council on Women’s Issues and delivered a welcoming speech. Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan also addressed the meeting with welcoming remarks, the foreign ministry said in a readout.
The Deputy Foreign Minister presented Armenia’s commitment to promoting gender equality and protecting women’s rights, highlighting key achievements in this area.
Reference was made to the adoption of the Third National Action Plan Women, Peace and Security, approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia, as well as to the establishment of a national mechanism aimed at strengthening international accountability in the field of human rights.
In the context of efforts to promote gender equality, Abisoghomonyan emphasized Armenia’s continued active and constructive cooperation with international human rights mechanisms and bodies, both within the framework of the United Nations and regional structures.
He also touched upon upcoming processes, underscoring the importance of planned visits by two international monitoring bodies to Armenia in the first half of 2026, from the perspective of improving gender equality policies and ensuring compliance with international standards.
Abisoghomonyan touched upon preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, to be held in Yerevan in 2026, stressing the importance of promoting women's participation and leadership within its framework.
The importance of ensuring the full involvement of women and girls in environmental protection, education, technology, as well as at all levels of public and political life, was highlighted as a key component of Armenia’s sustainable and inclusive development.
