Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, highlighted the “significant achievements” in the Armenia-EU relations, pointing to the new strategic agenda.
According to the ambassador, negotiations on the strategic agenda have required extensive work, but the most important thing is that it is already in the implementation phase.
“We already have several elements that are being carried out,” he said at the AIISA Security Forum titled Armenia and Peace: At the Intersection of Risks and Opportunities, highlighting in particular the dialogue on EU visa liberalization for Armenian citizens.
Maragos noted that the visa liberalization process will produce very concrete and tangible results for Armenian citizens.
The action plan for visa liberalization has already been presented, and the first assessment mission was conducted in November.
“Our goal is to present a progress report as soon as possible—in 2026. The Migration Service, the Parliament, and all other involved institutions are working to ensure that the action plan is implemented,” the EU ambassador said.
He emphasized that, based on the discussions and the information presented, the EU welcomes the Armenian government’s approach, viewing the visa liberalization action plan as part of a comprehensive reform program.
According to the ambassador, the planned reforms are primarily aimed at benefiting citizens.
“It is the citizens who will benefit from these reforms,” Maragos stressed.
