The Armenian government is planning to offer servicemembers a new military service option under the Homeland Defender volunteer contract.

Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan told a news conference that servicemembers will have the opportunity to extend their service for an additional two or five years once their initial 5-year volunteer term is completed.

“The Homeland Defender program is a 5-year program, and upon completion of the service, a bonus of 5 million AMD is given. We are now extending the contract by an additional 2 or 5 years, which results in 1.5 million AMD for 2 years, and, in the case of serving 5 more years, another 5 million AMD. That is, over a total of 10 years, the reward amounts to 10 million AMD,” Papikyan said.

The Minister of Defense added that currently 4,234 servicemembers are serving under the ‘Homeland Defender’ program, and their number continues to grow.
