Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia Artur Karapetyan will present a poetry performance titled «Ձեռքդ տու՛ր, թռչե՜նք» (Give me your hand, let’s fly) on Feb. 19 at the AGBU Hall in Pasadena, the United States, touching on themes close to everyone’s soul through the gentle poems of Teryan, the sobering verses of Charents, and the imagery created by Vardges Petrosyan. Artur Karapetyan will be joined on stage by pianist Karen Ananyan and cellist Arpenik, providing live musical accompaniment.
According to the actor, direct communication with the audience is central to the performance, which he describes as a simple conversation conveyed through poetic texts. He noted that in order to fully transmit the emotional impact, hall lighting, proximity to the audience, eye contact and live music are as important as the choice of literary works.
The Pasadena event will be Karapetyan’s first poetry evening abroad. He said the performance is intended to serve as a bridge between Armenians living in the homeland and those in the diaspora.
Before traveling to the United States, Karapetyan presented the poetry evening in Yerevan and several regions of Armenia. He said residents outside the capital, who often face difficulties traveling to Yerevan, should have access to cultural events in their own communities.
Interest in such performances was demonstrated during an event in the town of Hrazdan, where all the seats in the hall were occupied.
Karapetyan began acting in the eighth grade after joining a studio operating under the Yerevan Theater of Young Spectators. He later studied at the theater institute. His first major stage role came in 1987, when he portrayed Soghomon Tehlirian in the documentary drama based on Perch Zeytuntsyan’s play “Stand Up! The Court Is in Session!”
He has also appeared in stage productions including “The Eastern Dentist,” “The Last Teacher” and “The Last Stop.” His film role in “The Killed Pigeon” and his performance in the television series “Anna” are among his best-known works.
