The Armenian Parliament on Tuesday began debates on the bill to ratify the MoU signed between Armenia and the United Arab Emirates regarding the mutual recognition and exchange of driver’s licenses.

According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan, the move concerns two groups of people: non-residence and residence travelers.

“In the case of citizens arriving not for the purpose of residence, their driving licenses for light passenger vehicles are mutually recognized for the duration of their legal stay, and UAE citizens can freely drive within the territory of Armenia.

For Armenian citizens, during their legal stay in the UAE, they can freely drive with B-category (light passenger vehicles) and D1-category (minibuses up to 16 seats) driving licenses. The only condition is that the age of the license holder must meet the minimum age established by the national legislation of the country of arrival for the respective license category: 18 years for B, and 21 years for D1,” said Ghazaryan.

If individuals are in the territory for the purpose of residence, i.e., based on obtaining a residence status, they can apply for a driving license and be exempted from the exams.
