Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan said that the formation of a mutual atmosphere of trust between Armenia and Azerbaijan is crucial for achieving the final, lasting peace.
"There will be peace when mutual trust between the two countries and peoples is restored; it is a matter of time," Khachaturyan said when asked by reporters what stage Armenia and Azerbaijan need to reach for the peace process to become irreversible.
Armenia and Azerbaijan initialed a peace agreement on August 8. Armenia has expressed its readiness for the agreement’s final signing as soon as possible.
"As political leaders, we must truly ensure the political process and legal frameworks so that we can achieve such a situation," he added.
According to the President, the bilateral legal process is already in place, as both countries have recognized each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The final completion of this process will occur when the citizens and peoples of both countries are able to overcome the challenges that exist between them, he said.
"No one can say when that will happen; of course, I would like it to happen very quickly, but both countries' authorities must create favorable conditions, provide as many opportunities for communication as possible, and not be afraid that there may be some dissenters in one of the countries. I accept that there is a great possibility for this to become a reality," emphasized the President of Armenia.
According to Khachaturyan, the issues that exist today at the global level are the same for all countries, and their resolution requires collective efforts.
"This may concern climate, peace, technological changes happening in the world, artificial intelligence, and so on. All of this requires collective work. Everyone acknowledges this, and it is impossible to isolate oneself. In this regard, working with neighbors should be much easier and much more effective," the President of Armenia said.
