During his working visit to New York, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Iraqi President Abd Al Latif Jamal Rashid, his office said.
The two leaders discussed a range of issues on the agenda of Armenia-Iraq relations, highlighting the dynamic development of bilateral ties and the need to further deepen political dialogue and practical cooperation.
They emphasized the importance of expanding economic cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and other mutually beneficial areas. In this context, the launch of direct Yerevan-Baghdad flights was underlined as an important step toward strengthening political, economic and tourism ties.
Both sides positively assessed the recent Armenian-Iraqi business forum and stressed the importance of continuing such initiatives.
Regional developments were also addressed, including efforts to establish lasting peace following the initialing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty on August 8. The parties highlighted the significance of the "Crossroads of Peace" project and its potential for regional cooperation.
The presidents also emphasized expanding cooperation in education. President Khachaturyan noted that the opening of a branch of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne in Gyumri could provide opportunities for Iraqi students and strengthen student exchange programs.
