Judge Armen Danielyan of the Yerevan court of appeals has upheld a lower court’s verdict that jailed Russian-Armenian business magnate Samvel Karapetyan without bail in pre-trial detention on charges of advocating overthrow of government.
Karapetyan has denied wrongdoing.
After finding out that the appeal motion had been assigned to Judge Danielyan, Karapetyan’s lawyers decided to withdraw the motion for what they described as the judge’s poor track record. The judge, however, did not suspend the motion.
Karapetyan is the owner of Tashir Group.
