Iran says Israel launched war to sabotage potential nuclear deal with US

The Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, stated on Friday that Israel launched the attack on Iran on June 13 to thwart Tehran’s nuclear deal with the US.

“We were attacked by the Israeli regime and its supporters when Iran posed no threat whatsoever,” he said at a press conference. “We were engaged in a round of talks with the US, and the Israeli regime carried out the attack in order to disrupt those talks and prevent us from reaching an agreement with the US. They claim it was a preemptive strike to counter Iran’s threats, which is an unlawful and unreasonable justification,” the ambassador said.

Ambassador Sobhani accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of misleading the global community for over thirty years regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

“Ever since 1996, he has been misleading everyone, saying Iran would have a nuclear weapon in a year, in two years, by summer, by spring. We’ve repeatedly stated that we don’t seek to acquire nuclear weapons. We still do not have that goal, and our nuclear program has been conducted under the inspection of the IAEA. Inspectors from the agency are constantly visiting and monitoring our activities, and there has been no confirmation of Iran deviating from its peaceful nuclear program,” he said.

He added that the US had prior knowledge of the Israeli attack and greenlighted it.
