Xi calls for respect for the rights and interests of all countries

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for respect for the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, saying the world must not be allowed to return to the “law of the jungle.”

 According to Xinhua, Xi made the remarks during a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

“Fairness and justice must be upheld. Every country is an equal member of the international community, and the sovereignty, territorial integrity, legitimate rights and interests of every country must be respected,” Xi said.

He added that the more than 190 countries of the world share a common future and should work together to address global challenges.

Xi also stressed that “major countries should shoulder greater responsibilities.”
