Spain's PM responds to Donald Trump's threat to raise tariffs

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has responded to US President Donald Trump’s threat to raise tariffs on Spanish goods because his government won’t spend 5% of the country’s GDP on defence.
“Europe and the world are already suffering from a trade war being waged by the US, with tariff measures that we believe are unfair and unilateral,” Sanchez told reporters in Brussels when asked about Trump’s remarks the day prior.
At this week’s NATO summit in The Hague, Sanchez stated that his government will not spend more than 2.1% of its GDP on defence.
“In the case of Spain, it’s double the lie because we have a trade deficit – not surplus – with the United States,” he added.
