A delegation led by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Gela Geladze, arrived in Armenia on a working visit on June 23.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, Minister Geladze was welcomed by Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan during an official ceremony held at the ministry. The ministers laid flowers at the memorial wall dedicated to police officers who lost their lives while defending the borders of the homeland and fulfilling their official duties.
Following the ceremony, a meeting was held in an expanded format. Minister Sargsyan congratulated her Georgian counterpart on his recent appointment and wished him success in his new role. She emphasized the effective and stable cooperation between the two ministries, describing Geladze's visit as another significant step in strengthening bilateral ties.
Minister Sargsyan briefed the Georgian delegation on reforms underway in the Armenian Police, Rescue Service, and Migration and Citizenship Service. She also highlighted Armenia’s progress toward visa liberalization, stressing the importance of Georgia’s experience in that area. In addition, she addressed issues related to law enforcement cooperation, including the fight against transnational crime and illegal drug trafficking.
Minister Geladze thanked the Armenian side for the warm welcome, noting that this was his first official visit in his capacity as Minister of Internal Affairs. He commended the longstanding partnership between the two ministries and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing cooperation. Geladze assured that both the Armenian Ministry and Minister Sargsyan would have his full support during his tenure.
The Georgian Minister also shared details about ongoing reforms in his ministry and expressed interest in Armenia’s experience with educational reforms in the internal affairs sector.
Both parties expressed readiness to sign memorandums of understanding to define areas of cooperation more clearly and to establish operational communication between the ministries. This, they agreed, would help ensure more rapid and effective responses to transnational crime.
For further deepening ties, Minister Geladze invited Minister Sargsyan to pay an official visit to Tbilisi. Sargsyan accepted the invitation, noting that her return visit would serve as a continuation of their efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
Following the expanded-format discussions, the ministers continued their meeting in a bilateral format.
